Feeling blessed...

As we come towards the end of our 2026 season we realise just how lucky we have been this year.

Not only have we welcomed plenty of new boaters setting off on their very first narrowboat holiday in Wales, but we have also seen many of our longer-standing customers return to explore our beautiful canal for a second, third, and in one case, tenth time! All of these returning guests, who have truly become friends over the years, always bring us a little extra joy because we know we must be doing something right.

We'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who chose to take a canal barge holiday with us this year. Your support of our small family business, the lovely comments we receive when you hand back the boat, and the fantastic reviews you leave us are very much appreciated and mean the absolute world to us, diolch yn fawr.

We are also counting our blessings because during our fabulous summer of sunshine and dry weather, the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal has continued to flow beautifully, with no restrictions on cruising or lock use.

Whilst many routes across the wider network for canal holidays in the UK faced water shortages, leading to lock restrictions and temporary closures, our Monmouthshire and Brecon canal boat hire was able to operate completely as normal. The agreement reached between the Welsh Government, Welsh Water, and the Canal & River Trust worked faultlessly this season, keeping a steady, continuous supply of water feeding into the canal all summer long.

With this agreement in place for the next four years, anyone planning future narrowboat holidays in Wales can book with total peace of mind, confident that the Mon & Brec will have plenty of water no matter what the British weather brings.

We can’t wait to welcome you aboard next year, but before then, there’s plenty of winter maintenance to keep us busy. More on that next time!
